For model year 2009 the entire derailleur range was new, except for the Comp Triple. The whole deal got tighter and moved upmarket, Super Record was back but Mirage, Xenon, Race Triple and Champ Triple were gone. Super Record, Record and Chorus became 11 speed and there was no place for any 9 speed anymore.
The range therefore was:
11-speed
- Campagnolo Super Record (RD9-SR1)*
- Campagnolo Record (RD9-RE1)*
- Campagnolo Chorus (RD9-CH1)*
10-speed
- Campagnolo Centaur (RD9-CEXS)*
- Campagnolo Centaur (RD9-CEXM)*
- Campagnolo Veloce (RD9-VLXS)*
- Campagnolo Veloce (RD9-VLXM)*
- Campagnolo Comp Triple (RD7-COXL)
* New for model year 2009
From 2004 to 2008, inclusive, the part numbers were made up as follows:
- 'RD' for 'rear derailleur'.
- Numbers to indicate the year of introduction. So, for example, '4' indicated 2004.
- A dash for good measure
- Two letters that indicated the model/group name. So, for example, 'RE' meant Record.
- Some, slightly random, optional, letters that indicated colour options. So, for example, 'G' meant Century Grey.
- A character to indicate the number of speeds. So '1' for 11-speed and 'X' for 10-speed.
- A letter to indicate cage length. So 'S' for short, 'M' for medium and 'L' for long - all of which was curiously not in Italian.
From 2009 the part numbers were made up, slightly differently, as follows:
- 'RD' for 'rear derailleur'.
- Numbers to indicate the year of introduction. So, for example, '9' indicated 2009.
- An optional letter to indicate cage length. So either nothing or 'S' for short, 'M' for medium and '3' for long - all of which was curiously not in Italian.
