This is a pleasant example of an early Super Champion Super Mondial. Some of its features include:
- It is a 3-speed model with '3 Vitesses' handily stamped on its outer pulley cage plate.
- The hole for the dropout bolt is round and the dropout bolt and nut are relatively conventional.
- The chain tension adjustment ring is brass.
- The pulley cage is 53mm long.
- The outer pulley cage plate is also brass.
- The inner pulley cage plate is flat and brass.
- The pulley bolts have countersunk slotted heads and mount from the inside outwards.
On this particular example the toggle chain screws into the gear correctly, but the cable clamp bolt and nut are much larger than any that I would ever associate with Super Champion. I suspect that, many decades ago, a user, frustrated by fiddling with Super Champion's tiny offering, has split the chain and fitted something more suited to their chipolata fingers. I applaud their work.
