This web site from early 1997 does not mention the White Industries LMDS derailleur on its home page, but does show it as a ‘new’ item right at the top of the 1996/7 Catalogue page. I suspect this means that, in early 1997, the LMDS was not yet genuinely available.
It’s also worth noting that 1997 was still early days for the web (Google was only founded in September 1998) and White Industries already had a comprehensible presence - albeit one where they hoped to create parts of the web site ‘over the coming weeks’. Perhaps this has something to do with their location. From Novato to Silicon Valley is a mere 60 miles across the Golden Gate bridge.
