This patent was applied for by Otto Todrys of France Sporting Inc. - but it is clearly for a Simplex Champion du Monde derailleur. It is likely that Otto and France Sporting Inc were the US importers of Simplex, and that thisd patent is evidence of the first date and type of derailleur imported.

This is given further credence by the claim on US Trademark 575,781, that the classic Simplex logo was fisrst used in trade regulated by Congress (i.e inter between US states) in 1939.
