Umamen is the web name of an enigmatic Japanese person whose Flikr photostream indicates that he:

• makes the most incredible sculptures from Lego. My personal favourite is the model of Madness from the cover of One Step Beyond...
• is fascinated by Star Wars and that wacky Japanese sci-fi tradition
• has two rather beautiful bikes - a Kestrel 500SCi (you’ll remember the one with no seat tube) fitted with Campagnolo Chorus and a Kuota Ksano fitted with Campagnolo Record 11 speed
• enjoys a cycle tour up Mount Fuji
• likes his food.

In reply to my inane questions he also volunteered that:

• he lives in Tokyo
• the first road bike he ever owned was a Bianchi Alloro fitted with Campagnolo Triomphe
• the first Campagnolo Record derailleur that he ever owned was probably a 9 speed and was fitted to a 1996 Pinarello Paris (as used by Team Telekom)
• He is a climber rather than a sprinter.
