DISRAELI GEARS
TRP is the high end brand of Tektro Technology Corporation of Changhua, Taiwan. TRP may be derived from the phrase 'Tektro Racing Products' or something similar.
Tektro is one of the largest brake manufacturers in the world. It was established in 1986. Tektro branded brakes, particularly disc brakes, are reliable, honest, hard-working products that equip millions of mid-market bikes - and I like them.
In 2006 Tektro introduced the TRP brand for its new premium range. Think Lexus and Toyota, or Audi and Volkswagen. The first product that I remember selling in quantity was the Spyre disc brake - a dual action design that is, by far, my favourite cable operated disc brake. Very handy if you want disc brakes on an affordable and/or slightly non-standard, road bike.
In 2019 TRP surprised much of the world by introducing its first derailleur system - the DH7. It appears to be a design that includes some of the signature touches of John L. Calendrille - a man who has left a trail of designs through recent derailleur history - first for his own brand Vivo, then for Box and now for TRP.
As well as high-end ATB derailleurs, the patent record shows a shedload of patents for electronic designs - none of which have seen the light of day... yet.
