Paul de Vivie toured the bicycle shows of the winter of 1908-9. This is the first of two resulting articles.
In it, he is politely sceptical about those effete English bicycles - all glowing enamel and shining chrome. His taste runs to the real French touring bicycles with rugged multi-geared transmissions, wide tyres, caliper brakes and proper carriers.
