Taiwanese Patent # I391294/201136802 - FSA

Taiwanese patent 201136802 - FSA main image

Another beautiful patent for Kristopher Wehage of FSA. This one moves on from Taiwanese Patent # 201121842 and again developes designs that are strikingly similar to those explored by SunTour in 1981 (see Japanese Patent # S58-67585, # S58-67586 and # S58-67587). There are various changes, including range limiting screws that are much more practical and conventional (and, coincidentally, more similar to the SunTour Superbe Tech).

This patent shows a design controlled by a toothed belt (as used in the Tiso electronic derailleur) but, crucially, it also discusses mechanisms that use internal cogs to control the movement of the gear (see scan 26), these were later adopted for the FSA K-Force WE electronic derailleur. As an aside, SunTour also discussed cog-based mechanisms back in 1981 (see here).
