SunTour Hero

SunTour Hero derailleur main image

I (perhaps erroneously) regarded the SunTour Hero (and the very similar SunTour U) as being versions of the SunTour Honor manufactured down to a price, and fitted as original equipment on Japanese made bicycles.

This SunTour Hero seems to me to differ from my fifth style of Honor in that it has a particularly ugly pressed steel rear knuckle and a non-standard and very crude hanger (as also seen on my second style of SunTour U). In the case of the Hero, however, the hanger plate is riveted on - with a rivet disguised as an Allen bolt - damn cunning.

The SunTour Hero also runs the Honor close in the competition to have the most typically Japanese silly name. You feel it should shout something incomprehensible but clearly terrifying and slash the air with an unfeasibly sharp Samurai sword.
