October 1967 - Holdsworth advert

Sporting Cyclist October 1967 Holdsworth advert main image

This Holdsworth advert from October 1967 features an image of the very first version of the Campagnolo Nuovo Record derailleur. Some features for true Campagnolo-geeks to note include:

  • Pulley wheels with nine long 'teeth'. Later versions have pulley wheels with ten much shorter 'teeth'.
  • A random pattern of dots surrounding the writing on the logo on the outer parallelogram plate. Later versions have a regular grid of dots.
  • The absence of the usual slot that traps the pulley cage spring in the bottom of the p-knuckle. In these early versions the spring was trapped by a slot on the parallelogram side of the p-knuckle.
  • The absence of the usual pin that restricts the rotation of the pulley cage, instead, the pulley cage is prevented from rotating too far by a ledge cut in the splined cylinder that rotates around the p-knuckle.

Many thanks to Andy Fraser for lending me this magazine and allowing me to scan it.
