Spanish Patent # 184,494 - Triplex

Spanish Patent 184,494 - Triplex main image

This is the earliest Triplex deraillier patent that I have uncovered so far. It shows a competent copy of a 1946 Simplex Champion du Monde 46. However there are three variations from this seminal design - first the body has two rather modern and dashing slots cut out of it, second there is no volute spring protecting the sliding rod mechanism from dirt and grime and third the pulley wheels are extravagantly toothed (rather than round as was the fashion for racing derailleurs of the era).

Note that the freewheel is drawn as a, rather advanced, five speed.
