Shimano Dura-Ace 1996

There’s something pleasantly polyglot about watching Pavel Tonkov (of Russia) speaking Italian, but being drowned out by a German voice-over translation. It has all the piquant drama of a Euro-zone summit considering the mutualisation of Greek sovereign debt.

It’s also a pleasure to see the likes of Gianni Bugno and Abraham Olano interviewed in front of a big truck advertising Shimano Nexus. Perhaps they are both secret fans of epicyclic gears - which could explain the somewhat relaxed style that they shared.

Despite focussing on Italian Teams in 1996, any mention of EPO or centrifuges is notable for its absence - as are cycling helmets when I come to think of it.
