Of the four generations of long cage New Success derailleurs, three generations were, as you might expect, simply longer cage versions of the respective short cage models.
But one generation, this one, was unrelated to the contemporary short cage model in any real way. This long cage New Success design is in fact a long cage version of the more lowly Sachs-Huret Rival 7000 series. It has its adjustment screws on the back of b-knuckle, not on the outer parallelogram plate, there are a lot of steel parts, it weighs a chunky 300+ grams, it's just not a true New Success.
With its easily gripped 'cubic' cable adjuster, this is a hard working example of an later Sachs-Huret New Success ATB (53.21T?). Some of its key features are:
- It is branded Sachs-Huret.
- There is no sprung cable saver built into the cable stop.
- The cable adjuster is a chunky 'cubic' design that is easy to grip.
- It has a rather strangely shaped steel pulley cage.
- It has steel pulley bolts.
- It has conventional pulleys running on bushes.
