DISRAELI GEARS
The Regina Extra is a rather tidy single pulley derailleur. It is impressively simple and uses affordable steel pressings - but still manages to convey an air of strength and precision.
I have found it difficult to date the Regina Extra, and have not yet managed to find it listed in any Regina catalogues. Mass produced single pulley derailleurs first appeared in the 1930s but remained a staple on Italian utility bikes right up to the early 1970s. Based on very little, my guess is that it dates from some time around 1950.
I have three of these derailleurs in this collection - and each displays slight differences from the others. This may indicate that this basic design was produced over a number of years.
