The Clarion was a great British socialist cycling club, active throughout most of the 20th century.

Regular features of the Clarion’s handbook were some slightly disturbing nonsense about ‘Boots’ and ‘Spurs’, and the complete text of the Internationale. I was surprised to find out how much of this I still knew - and also to realise what a pompous piece of doggerel it really is. If you want a rousing political anthem, give me Dylan’s ‘Masters of War’ anytime.
