Marino Basso, Italian, 1945 -

Marino Basso was one of the great sprinters of the late 1960s and early 1970s. During his career, he won 6 (flat) stages of the Tour de France and was World Road Race Champion in 1972.

Interestingly, he hailed from Caldogno, very close to Vicenza, the home town of Campagnolo.

I believe that he used a Campagnolo Nuovo Record (1020/A) derailleur to win his World Road Race title.
