DISRAELI GEARS

Huret Super Success (2470 S)

The Super Success was a Success with drilled pulley cage plates and a silver/grey look. It was (just) even lighter than the Success. The gear change remained at least as good (or not as bad) as Campagnolo’s Super Record.

It retains number of features that are a little incongruous on what was, at the time, possibly the most technologically advanced derailleur in production. It still has the second threaded hole in the lower knuckle, to use if you want the capacity to handle a 28 tooth cog. It also has Huret’s adjustable ball bearing pulley wheels, with a toothless idler pulley - as found on an early 1960’s Allvit.

Finally this example retains its much loathed ‘useless plastic part’ that plugs into the top knuckle. This object could only be removed by taking the wheel off the bike and pushing it out through the hollow allen bolt. Even then it often broke, causing the poor bicycle shop mechanic to receive a torrent of abuse from the customer for spoiling the look of their bike. God, I hated that useless piece of crap!
