Selectic is the brand of Société des Établissements Bamarec, a company which appears to have been based in Rue Las-Cases, Paris, France. I don't know when the company was established, but it was active in 1940. It patented the design of the Selectic derailleur in 1950.

The Selectic derailleur was manufactured in volume. It was notable because it had no lever or control cable. Instead it included a cunning and sophisticated mechanism that was operated by back pedalling. I am still trying to work out exactly how, when you are in the middle gear, it decided whether to shift up or down.

There is an engineering company called Bamarec Precision Components Europe that is still very much in business today. However this company is based in Fougères in the west of France, and there are records of Bamarec in Fougères also dating from 1940. So I am not sure that Bamarec Precision Components Europe is related to the derailleur in any way.
