F. W. Evans was, for many decades, an important London bicycle shop. It was based in Kennington Road which I would describe as being in Lambeth. At some point the shop moved to The Cut, even closer to Waterloo Station.
At this point one Richard Ballantine wandered in and bought an F. W. Evans touring bike. This bike went on to feature on the cover of Richard’s Bicycle Book. The UK's very own adult bicycle boom was now on - and F. W. Evans can claim to be its birthplace.
F. W. Evans went on to develop from a single London bike shop, to a London chain of a dozen bike shops, into Evans Cycles a nationwide chain of 50+ bike shops. As always ownership moved from a single businessman/cycling fanatic to a dodgy crew of Investment Bankers and Private Equity geezers.
