In the mid 1970s Zeus redesigned their middle-of-the-range Zeus Criterium and top-of-the-range Zeus 2000, incorporating aluminium parallelogram plates into both models. This left a space for an all steel model at the low end - step forward the reborn Zeus Gran Sport.

This was not the same model as the 1960s Zeus Gran Sport. This new (but not nuovo) Gran Sport had a pulley cage with an off-set pivot, and the pulley cage plates were made of aluminium. Despite this, the Gran Sport was retro even then.
