Tullio Campagnolo patented a single pulley derailleur in 1951 - and it was a strangely unfamiliar object with a clean geometric machine-like look.
By 1952 normal service had been resumed. This patent, for the Campagnolo Sport is much more recognisably Tullio's work. It features Campagnolo's, signature, slightly Gothic or even biomorphic style.
There was method in this stylistic madness. Tullio Campagnolo instinctively knew that he wanted his derailleurs to be revered as more than any mere machines.
