This is the second of four articles by ‘L.F.’ in which he (or she) ran an eye over the exotic offerings on show at the bicycle salons of the winter of 1905-06. There was not much going on with derailleurs - but plenty of action with every other crazy transmission idea under the sun.

God knows what problem the dashing Captain Cornu was trying to solve with his whacky transmission - I can only hope he solved it.

It is also always a pleasure to see an oval chainwheel. They are the smoked haddock of bicycle technology - burped up again and again so that you can re-enjoy them each and every time.
