Frank Berto considers that, in technical terms, SunTour had caught back up with Shimano by 1990, and that the 1992 SunTour XC Pro groupset, featuring Microdrive, was in some ways the technical leader. I am not so sure. SunTour’s chains and Powerflo cogs still seemed to me to lack the silky smooth shift of Shimano’s Hyperdrive - but SunTour XC Pro was certainly beautifully made and packed with innovation - duly trumpeted in this glossy brochure.
