Viewed through the lens of history the big news for 1985 was the launch of Shimano Index System (SIS) which would prove to be the first derailleur indexing system to work slickly and reliably and would go on to change the world of cycling forever. This newspaper-sized brochure captures this exact moment in just the same way as one of those pompous front pages reporting the sinking of the Titanic (although ‘The Unlimited Challenge’ does not have quite the same class as ‘Aberdeenshire Man Drowned At Sea’).

It’s a stylish and informative publication - and I particularly like the crowd scenes. It’s time for moustaches to make a come-back.
