I liked this photo because it combined Simplex, a derailleur brand that is clearly part of the extremely distant past, with Sean Yates, a figure often seen as part of that very modern phenomenon - the rise of British road cycling. Sean was, of course a loyal, hard working domestique, riding 12 Tours and, after a stage in 1994, briefly wearing the Maillot Jaune. But, perhaps more notably, in 2012 Sean Yates was a leading figure in the Sky team car supporting Bradley Wiggins during his Tour victory. He has subsequently left Team Sky and now works for Team Tinkoff-Saxo.
The background of this photo looks suspiciously like a tacky Spanish holiday villa I once stayed in. Despite this, a very young Sean is captured coyly exuding a certain boyish charm...
