Established in 1992 in the Wugu district of Taipei, Golden Sun is yet another Taiwanese manufacturer of bicycle components offering a range of eerily familiar designs. As ever, its ‘compamy’ (sic) mission statement contains fine words about quality, efficiency, meeting customer demands and, more interestingly, humanity. So far, so... normal.
The main reason that Golden Sun piqued my interest is that its name contains a reference to the Sun. SunTour, SunRace, Sun-Bow, Golden Sun... where will it ever end. What is it about the glowing celestial orb that is so essentially linked to the bicycle drivetrain? Or perhaps the Golden Sun is not a heavenly body at all, but Sun Yat-sen - one of the few political figures to be held in high regard on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.
I also liked Golden Sun’s beguiling logo - with the central solar ray being mysteriously upside-down.
