French Patent # 771,557 - Caminade

French Patent 771,557 - Caminade main image

Pierre Caminade’s Rectiligne was a system, in the tradition of Edmund Hodgkinson’s 1899 Gradient and Terrot’s 1910 Modèle HE, in which the chain stayed straight and the sprocket cluster moves laterally.

At roughly the same time Trivelox in the UK were working on a strikingly similar system. However, like the Gradient, Caminade puts the large cog on the outside and the small cog on the inside.
